Vist to Society for the Aged Sick by Rocmoc

On the 25th of March, the Rockclimbing team had their CIP held at the Society for the Aged Sick, a nursing home in Hougang for the elderly. The aim of the CIP was to put up a simple performance for entertainment and to allow the Rocmoc members to interact with the elderly. The Rockclimbing team also showed a video clip to introduce our CCA and then the JC2 members put up a performance for the elderly. After the performance, the members interacted with the elderly through simple conversations and we also tried feeding the elderly during dinner time and wheeling them back to their wards.

Value exercised: Active

Overall reflection:
"In order to make the CIP a success, we should take on an active role and reach out to the elderly. It was only after realising that we were really sincere to help them, and then the elderly started to share more with us. In addition, the elderly might not be as responsive due to their health conditions; we had to take on an active role to keep them engage. Hence, our rock climbing members went forward to help the elderly with their meals, offering to feed them and entertaining them. After their dinner, we initiated to assist the nurses to wheel them back to their wards."

"I thought that more could be done to help them; help that was not limited to entertaining or to providing them with services, but to talk and interact with them, to give them a sense of hope - the feeling that they are being cared for" -Amos

"Through this activity, I felt that I should spend more thought thinking about life. Actually, I felt more appreciative of what I had" -Jie Hong

"After learning much from this CIP, I felt that most people, including myself, tend to take our lives for granted, and live as though there’s no tomorrow." -Jaymond Yang
