Breakfast With HSC

The event “Breakfast with HSC” was held on 18 July 2009 at Hougang CCC. It was organized for the low-income elderly with the aid of the volunteers such as the students from the CCC and other CCAs and also the teachers. Through this event, all the volunteers were given a chance to interact with the elderly and also provide entertainment for them. All the volunteers had different roles in this event; some helped in preparing the breakfast, some performed for the elderly, some set up games for the elderly to play, etc. All the elderly had enjoyed themselves through this event, as they had a fulfilling breakfast and also won many prizes by participating the games. Thus, all the volunteers had helped in making this meaningful event a successful and memorable one for everyone.

CIP at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve by Bowling Team

The Bowling Team went down to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to help them with mangrove salvaging, where they moved the young saplings out from the ground into plastic bags for transportation using shovels.

Value exercised: Integrity
Overall reflection:
"We had to endure the hot weather while we did our CIP, and also the muddy and wet conditions of the swamp while we transported the saplings. All of us worked hard despite the dirty and muddy conditions, and managed to do a good job of transporting the saplings, even earning praise from the staff there for our efficient work, and therefore I believe that we have shown endurance for our CIP this time round."

"It was an interesting activity that allowed us to embrace Mother Nature and give back to the environment in our own way. Furthermore, we also managed to learn a lot about the wildlife through the wetland reserve guide who painstakingly explained everything to us." - Chan Yu

"It was definitely an educational trip for me that allowed me to learn so much more about our environment that I never knew about before, and so I consider this trip a very fulfilling and enriching one, even though we had to get down and dirty in this activity. " - Marcus Ng

"This trip was a slightly more meaningful trip compared to just going down to the old folk’s home because we not only managed to learn more about the wetland reserve, we also got an opportunity to do our part for the environment Although it was hard and dirty work transporting the saplings, I still had a lot of fun because I knew that all my work was worth the effort at the end of the day." - Jerry Chow

Bowling's Activity at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

On the 8th of March, the Bowling Team made a trip down to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve to do their part to help nature.
They managed to transport young saplings out from the ground into plastic bags for transportation using shovels, bearing in mind they had consider the tides and safety of the 50-odd people who went down to the nature reserve.

By ensuring all safety measures are taken care of and working slowly with the management at Sungei Buloh, the Bowling Team definitely had a great experience at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

As Chan Yu puts is,
" It was an interesting activity that allowed us to embrace Mother Nature and give back to the environment in our own way. "
