Vist to Society for the Aged Sick by Rocmoc

On the 25th of March, the Rockclimbing team had their CIP held at the Society for the Aged Sick, a nursing home in Hougang for the elderly. The aim of the CIP was to put up a simple performance for entertainment and to allow the Rocmoc members to interact with the elderly. The Rockclimbing team also showed a video clip to introduce our CCA and then the JC2 members put up a performance for the elderly. After the performance, the members interacted with the elderly through simple conversations and we also tried feeding the elderly during dinner time and wheeling them back to their wards.

Value exercised: Active

Overall reflection:
"In order to make the CIP a success, we should take on an active role and reach out to the elderly. It was only after realising that we were really sincere to help them, and then the elderly started to share more with us. In addition, the elderly might not be as responsive due to their health conditions; we had to take on an active role to keep them engage. Hence, our rock climbing members went forward to help the elderly with their meals, offering to feed them and entertaining them. After their dinner, we initiated to assist the nurses to wheel them back to their wards."

"I thought that more could be done to help them; help that was not limited to entertaining or to providing them with services, but to talk and interact with them, to give them a sense of hope - the feeling that they are being cared for" -Amos

"Through this activity, I felt that I should spend more thought thinking about life. Actually, I felt more appreciative of what I had" -Jie Hong

"After learning much from this CIP, I felt that most people, including myself, tend to take our lives for granted, and live as though there’s no tomorrow." -Jaymond Yang

East Coast Park Beach Cleaning

The Track & Field went to clean the beach at East Coast Park Area E to make the park and BBQ pit area a clean and green environment for its patrons. During the activity, participants have exercised the college value of Selflessness as they felt that picking up litter at the beach on a Saturday afternoon requires one to sacrifice their time and energy. Let's take a look at what some of the participants have got to say!

"I was delighted. There was a sense of accomplishment to be able to pull such an activity off." - Tan Wei Jie

"After the CIP activity, I find the activity was very beneficial as benefits the environment with us helping to clean up the beachand promotes team spirit as we did the activity together." -Nicholas Heng

"Beach cleaning has totally changed my viewpoint of what a beach is suppose to be like. Basically I am sure that most of us found beaches a place of leisure, however, this place of pleasure is now flooded with refuse due to our negligence in ensuring a proper disposal of our thrash.
Despite picking rubbish under the scorching sun, the company brought along by your team brings joy to picking thrash under such a demanding situation." - Chan Tak Kin

A CIP activity thus not only helps a team to bond, it also have made us discover issues about the environment and society we live in, as mentioned by Tak Kin. I am glad that Wei Jie felt delighted after the activity. And of course asNicholas mentioned, no matter how small our contribution is, every CIP that we do is beneficial and impactful. (: Good job Track & Field members!
